Michael Cooper (2000 Vintage) says
Dark, mouthfilling and crammed with ripe fruit characters, this is a serious yet sensuous Hawke's Bay red, with a seductive intensity of spicy, vibrant, almost sweet-tasting flavour. Grown in a mix of clay and stone at Te Awanga, where the vines yield only five to six tonnes per hectare, it is matured for 18 months in French (80 per cent) and American oak (20 percent); about 70 per cent of the barrels are new each year. The 2000 vintage is a blend of Merlot (50 per cent), Malbec (28 per cent), Cabernet Franc (12 per cent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10 per cent). Purple-flushed, it is plump and deep, with concentrated blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, chocolatey, gamey nuances and a lasting finish. Already delicious, it also has the power to age; open 2003
