Coldstream Hills The Esplanade Pinot Noir

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This cheeky pinot from a single vineyard and a great year, has the legs to live for a few years. Scents of hedgerow berries, black plums and toasted cedar rise from the glass to tempt the senses, before the medium-bodied palate chimes in with juicy ripe plums and cherries, a touch of white pepper, a hint of earthiness, and an elegant, long, spicy finish

Winemaker's Notes

Coldstream Hills prides itself for having access to many of the best vineyards in the Yarra Valley. These sites are found throughout the upper and lower Yarra Valley with each vineyard providing a range of unique characteristics to the wines.

Back in the late 1980s, James Halliday introduced single vineyard wines to Coldstream Hills and demonstrated their unique styles. The tradition has continued with the release of the Single Vineyard range.

Appearance: Medium crimson red.

Nose: The bouquet is opulent with ripe fruit characters of plums, dark cherries and raspberries. French oak provides additional complexity to the wine and is supported by underlying mineral notes, whole bunch stalkiness and spice.

Palate: Medium bodied and textural, the palate exhibits concentrated notes of dark cherry and plum. Secondary characters of whole bunch savouriness, earthiness and mineral are underpinned by integrated French oak. The wine has great structure and finishes with silky, yet persistent tannins.

Cellaring: Now to 2021.

Alcohol: 13.5%

WINESTATE (2012 Vintage) says
Rosehip and plums on the nose with good toasty oak to balance. Palate has a ripe red core of fruit with spicy aniseed notes and nice earthiness. Excellent flavour length.
