James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Crimson-red; the fragrant bouquet has warm spices interwoven with red and black berry fruits, a theme that carries through on the supple, medium-bodied palate, tannins and oak in finely balanced support. Theoretically an impossible outcome for this and the Reserve Shiraz in '11.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Clear crimson-purple; the poetry starts with the delicately fragrant array of black cherry, plum and spice aromas of the bouquet, and continues with the beautifully balanced palate, oak, tannins and fruit seamlessly joined. Alex Mckay's advice to drink it on release or up to 10 years (I would suggest more than 10, but that's by the by) is bang on the money.

The entry-level red from Collector offers instant allure and delivers outstanding value to boot. Smells of complex, lifted, fragrant red fruits, spicy complexity and musky rose-scented perfume. The palate's juicy and crisp, with bright cherry and mixed red-berry flavours bouncing through on supple, lively tannins.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Attractive, lively medium-bodied wine; predominantly red fruits seamlessly merge with spice and a touch of pepper on the very long palate; good oak and tannin balance. Release Sept '09.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Excellent crimson-purple; a perfectly composed and balanced medium-bodied shiraz, the bouquet fragrant, the palate laden with black fruits and ripe tannins; outstanding length.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
Campbell Mattinson & Gary Walsh (2007 Vintage) says
The 2006 Collector Wines made a splash, and, while this doesn't have quite the depth of its 2006 equivalent, it's another good release. Walsh reckons it tastes like toffee apples, only nicer and less sticky. It's a good call. It's a medium-bodied, juicy and delicious wine with fine tannins, nutty oak and what the late, great Len Evans would have called excellent 'line and length' - meaning that all the wine's components and flavours follow nicely on from one another and flow satisfactorily through the finish. Tasty stuff.
The Big Red Wine Book 2009/10 2009
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Vibrant purple hue; highly aromatic, with spicy/ savoury red and dark fruits; medium-bodied with plenty of grip on the finish, and should age gracefully.

This represents some terrific value and delivers polished style; Collector is certainly a project to keep an eye on. MTR is a cool-climate fragrant shiraz with ripe dark fruits, berries and spice - complex and engaging. The palate is elegant and suave; very measured. Tannins are lined up in fine sheets, drawing succulent bright fruit flavour long and even.
