The 1997 vintage was grown in a single vineyard in the Wairau Valley and half of the final blend was fermented and matured on its gross lees for eight months in American oak barriques (mostly second-fill). Maturing well, it offers lush, ripe, slightly honied, very non-herbaceous flavours wrapped in sweet, toasty oak. There is no 1998 - the style has yet to win widespread popularity.
