Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (1999 Vintage) says
Here's a great opportunity to buy an aged Flawke's Bay red, maturing well. Released in mid-2003, the 1999 vintage is a full but not densely coloured blend of Merlot (68 per cent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (32 per cent), grown in the Gimblett Gravels district and matured for 14 months in French oak barriques (30 per cent new). Brambly and spicy, with hints of coffee, leather and herbs, it's drinking well now, with loads of character.

Michael Cooper (1996 Vintage) says
The 1996 vintage is a very good wine, but would have been improved by more restrained use of oak. A 60/40 blend, matured for 14 months in American and French oak casks, it is full-coloured, with a highly perfumed bouquet. The palate is spicy, with fresh fruit characters, plenty of flavour, assertive wood and a firm, dry finish.
