Michael Cooper (1997 Vintage) says
Ngatarawa's lower-tier Chardonnay label is a mouthfilling, easy-drinking Hawke's Bay wine with some complexity. The 1996 vintage is a soft, full-flavoured, citrusy and buttery wine, maturing well. The yellow-hued 1997 50 per cent fermented in French and American oak barrels, is a soft wine with citrusy, biscuity flavours, slightly honied and showing some development; drink now rather than cellar.
