Coriole Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Coriole have been a McLaren Vale institution for as far back as we can remember and while they concentrate on Shiraz and alternative varieties like Sangiovese, this displays they are a bit handy with whites too. This is a classic example of how two varieties can be better than one, the nose showing apple and citrus as well as nashi pear. The Semillon adds texture while the Sauvignon Blanc imparts fresh, zesty acids. A crowd-pleasing style of white that would pair well with a Goats cheese salad.

Winemaker's Notes

An excellent example of the way these two varietals can work in harmony. The nose shows gooseberry, guava and tropical aromatics. On the palate, a delicate wine that’s minerally with richness and texture.

The Semillon adds balance and weight while the Sauvignon Blanc imparts a fresh, crispness to the wine. A little restraint makes it an ideal match with food.

An old hand with making white wines of this style, but McLaren Vale is not going to challenge Margaret River, now or ever; that said, has pleasant citrus and tropical fruit flavours.

Clean and crisp; a touch of tropical passionfruit from the sauvignon blanc, the semillon providing structure, but also some of the grassy, mineral notes on the finish.

Solid, flavoursome mix of herb, grass and mineral, largely from the semillon; slightly broader finish. McLaren Vale/Adelaide Hills.

Substantial wine; solid, firm structure; herbal/grassy semillon dominates the palate.

Full flavoured and generous; ripe tropical fruit with a touch of citrus.

Light to medium yellow-green; the spotlessly clean bouquet has good varietal character definition in a gooseberry tropical spectrum, the palate with the expected flavour intensity promised by the bouquet, rich but not heavy. A very consistent producer of this style.

James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Medium yellow-green; the bouquet is quite complex and ripe, suggestive of some oak influence, although there is in fact none; the same characters come through on the palate in excellent lunch-style.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium yellow-green; the bouquet is moderately complex and rich, with ripe, tangy fruit, the palate slightly more straightforward, but flavoursome and well balanced.
