The dark, firm, deeply flavoured 2002 vintage is a Hawke's Bay blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (45 percent), Cabernet Franc (35 percent), Merlot 110 per cent) and Malbec (10 percent), matured for 18 months in French oak casks (30 per cent new). The bouquet is spicy and complex; the palate is generous, with ripe, berryish flavours, coffee, leather, earth and black pepper characters adding complexity and firm underlying tannins. Fine value.

Described on the label as possessing 'a soft, young, ripe body', the 2001 vintage is a 60/40 blend, grown in Hawke's Bay and oak-aged for 15 months. It's a full-coloured wine, buoyantly fruity, with berryish, plummy flavours, but lacks real warmth, with a slightly high-acid finish.
