Craggy Range Sophia Gimblett Gravels Merlot Cabernet

Expert Reviews

WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Delicious rich, ripe and smooth in its youth, this Gimblett Gravels blend of merlot (65%) and cabernet sauvignon (25%) also has splashes of cabernet franc (7%) and petit verdot (3%). Matured for 18 months in French oak barriques (45% new), it is deeply coloured, full-bodied, sweet-fruited and supple, with highly concentrated, ripe cassis, plum and spice flavours

Nick Stock (2008 Vintage) says
The flagship right-bank-styled Sophia is a darkly concentrated wine with an inky colour and plenty of richness. The 2008 looks very fresh, showing deep violetine florals, sweet purple fruits and lighter earthy nuances, with some graphite and restrained cedary oak lingering in the background. The palate is immense, with almost impossibly concentrated flavours of every blue and purple berry you can imagine - very long and deep, dense and resolute. It layers richly and never loses the build and grace. A true landmark effort and a great follow-up to the impressive 2007.
