Crawford River Sauvignon Blanc Semillon

Cracka Review

A stylish and lively example of the Crawford River terroir, this blend of 50% Semillon and 50% Sauvignon Blanc is drinking superbly. As the Sauvignon becomes more subdued, the attributes of the Semillon are really beginning to shine.

An intensely soft and textured palate is filled with subtle flavours of honeydew melon and lemongrass, with a fine backbone of chalky minerals. Innate acidity and firm minerality underpin the wine with a lingering and crisp finish.

The best blend of this style for a few years, this finely structured wine may be cellared carefully for at least five to ten years, as the Semillon component matures gracefully.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Lifted tropical fruit on the bouquet; the palate is fresh, and offers a little sweetness to counterbalance the tangy acidity

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Lots of ripe fruit aromas, with a hint of fresh-cut grass; nice weight and texture, and the small amount of sweetness balances out the racy acidity.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Lemongrass aromas; a firm palate with good length, but not a lot of fruit expression early in its life. Will undoubtedly gain character as it ages.

Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
Tightly crafted and sculpted, with underlying chalkiness and a racy acidity, this lightly dusty, nutty and herbaceous blend reveals a fresh, racy presence of gooseberries, melon and passionfruit. It's long, tangy and intensely flavoured.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; immaculately balanced and constructed gooseberry and passionfruit; lemony/citrus acidity; long, clean finish.

Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
Lightly grassy, herbaceous aromas of gooseberries and lychees with lightly sweaty undertones precede a warm juicy palate of passionfruit, lychees and goose berry flavours. It's moderately long, clean and tangy, and backed by a measured expression of slightly toasty vanilla oak. It's pleasingly fresh and austere to finish, but just lacks a little finesse.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Fragrant and flowery passionfruit aromas; generous, ripe mid-palate tightens nicely on the finish with balanced acidity and the spine of Semillon.

Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
Delicate floral and lightly sweaty aromas of citrus, green melon and passionfruit overlie nuances of tobacco and dried herbs. Vibrant and juicy, its intensely and brightly flavoured palate is punctuated by racy lemony acids, culminating in a long and refreshing finish. Pleasing shape and tightness.

Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
Toasty, buttery aromas of candied citrus fruit, talcum powder and vanilla oak, with grassy undertones precede a round, soft and juicy palate of brightness and length. It finishes long and lemony, with lingering tropical and melon-like fruit, plus an attractive grassiness.

James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Fragrant lime blossom aromas, moving to more herbal and mineral notes on the palate; typical Crawford River length.

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Light yellow-green; clean grass and herb aromas with hints of fruit spice lead into a palate with intense fruit flavour reflecting the bouquet, and good length.

James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Light green-yellow; a clean, light, fresh and crisp grassy bouquet together with mineral characters is faithfully repeated on the crystal clear, clean and crisp palate.
