James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Light to medium-bodied; supple red fruits are supported by gentle tannins.

Although the r.r.p. is just over $15, we've been assured that the wine is generally available under our cut-off point. We found the 2001 Schinus Merlot to be a pleasant, drinkable red with ripe red berry and plum flavours and gentle oak to finish. At this stage, the 2002 shows good fruit character but lacks generosity.

James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Light to medium red-purple; a lively, scented bouquet with fresh berry fruit is followed by an uncomplicated, light-bodied, fruity palate in an emphatic drink-now style.

A second label for Garry Crittenden's Dromana Estate, the Schinus Merlot has been a consistent performer at this price point. The 2000 vintage is again an attractive, smooth, medium-bodied red with mentholy, red berry flavours and fine, dusty tannins.

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; the bouquet is fragrant, with leafy/minty fruit aromas replicated on the palate with its mix of leaf, mint and spice fruit; a crisp finish to a wine which is effectively a cross between Rose and light dry red.
