James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Estate-grown; open-fermented, 4% whole bunches, three-day cold soak, wild yeast, 20 days on skins. French oak (25% new) for 20 months. The bright crimson colour and fragrant bouquet lead into a supple, full-flavoured (cherry/plum/spice) palate with immaculate length and balance. Will stand tall against its forebears

An outstanding release from Curly Flat. Silken, highly aromatic, has fruit depth and yet it’s light on its feet, racy almost, and correspondingly lengthy. This is a Curly Flat Pinot Noir for the true believers. Fleshy, succulent, deep, smooth and spicy. A standout.

A delightful and characterful pinot noir, its spicy allure accented by this cool season  without detrating from seamless, juicy red fruit flow, finely textured mouth feel and great persistence. A triumph.

“Curly Flat is now a mature estate heading into its prime. This is a delicate pinot noir. Restrained. Earthen. Savoury. All good things. Flavours of cherries and mint, brown bread and crushed dry spice. Fine, firm tannin gives it a discipline. Minerally, steely tannin. Water-based rather than alcohol-based, as pinot noir should be. Gorgeous, flavoursome, sappy length. Oak adds texture and polish. Excellent.”

Wonderful limpid ruby of fine pinot noir with complex aromas of floral, mineral and savoury with rose and strawberry and some crunchy stemmy and oak notes in the back ground. Grows in the glass revealing the balance and delicacy that we have come to expect of this producer. The youthfully silky palate is very soft fruit sweet, with fine underlying acidity, good depth of complex middle palate and youthful firm tannin finish. Fun to drink now but great to keep to see the fruit soften the flavours, expand and gain more silk, length and depth. The palate on this wine is superb always very consistent expression of the silky tannins and mouth filling quality of fine pinot with with concentrated red and black cherry often with a floral spice a great line in acidity and fresh pinot varietal character with understated oak and stalk character. When tasted in 2013 a wine to drink from 2015 on.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Healthy, clear red-purple; offers a mix of spicy/savoury and French oak nuances running through the plum and red cherry fruit of the bouquet; the palate is perfectly balanced, and the 22 months in 30% new French oak barrels were judged to perfection. WAK

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Bright mid garnet; a heady and hedonistic array of red and black fruits, Asian spices and subtle floral notes blend together on the bouquet; the palate is silky, deeply textured and layered, with a tightly wound core of super fresh fruit and mouth-watering acidity; long, silky and beautifully detailed, this will reward careful cellaring, but will be hard to leave alone.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Bright, deep crimson; a pinot with everything where it should be, even the early picking/low alcohol; this has enhanced the fragrance of the wine without sacrificing ripe fruit flavours on the elegant, light-bodied palate.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Good crimson-purple hue, although not 100% bright; as ever, a complex and powerful wine, with black cherry and plum up front, then spicy/savoury/forest notes accompany the fruit on the back-palate and finish. No doubting the security of the screwcap in protecting freshness.

In the mainstream of the Curly Flat pinot style; supple, velvety red fruits open the story, and persist while complex spicy/foresty notes whisper in the background. Pleasure now or later.

Curly Flat is a meticulously managed vineyard currently converting its vines to biodynamic farming practices. 2004 RELEASE Easily the best Curly Flat pinot noir to date. It's steely, perfumed, powered by medium-weight cherry-plummed flavour and gorgeously cuddled in cedary oak. It has balance, varietal integrity, structure and power. DRINK 2012-2018.
