Deep crimson-purple hue; aromas of black and blue fruits, Asian spices and ironstone are evident on the bouquet; the palate is medium-bodied and restrained with fine-grained tannins a feature of the long graphite-laden finish; seems to be in a dip at this point in time, but given the benefit of the doubt.

A well made wine of presence and concentration, even if perhaps it's very slightly baked. Rustic and meaty, with musky aromas of dark plums and blackberries, cloves and cinnamon with suggestions of white pepper, it's an older, riper style whose powerful presence of dense, spicy fruit is handsomely partnered by new chocolatey oak. Underpinned by a firm, powdery extract, it's full-bodied and brooding, with deep, slightly confectionery flavours of plums and berries finishing long and drying.

Lacking the exceptional length of fruit for true greatness, this remains a fine example of controlled power, strength and balance in a savoury and meaty expression of Victorian shiraz. Its musky, spicy and briary aromas of dark berries, plums and cassis overlie charcuterie-like reductive influences. Richly fruited and finely balanced, it's robust, bony and likely to develop plenty of complexity over time.
