Medium red-purple; bright, fresh cherry aromas, with the barest whiff of oak are followed by a direct, fresh, firm berry-flavoured palate. All in all, a little simple.

Danny Schuster's regional blend is designed for earlier drinking than the top label (below). The 1997 grown at the Petrie vineyard at Rakaia in Mid Canterbury and the Omihi vineyard at waipara, is a buoyandy fruity, forward style with moderate tannins and some savoury richness. The 1998 is a flavoursome, forward style, quite developed and rounded, with cherryish, savoury characters and some complexity.
