Spicy, rustic and slightly meaty aromas of dark plums, blackberries and roast meats with peppery undertones precede a deep, dark and complex palate-staining mouthful of intense fruit and firmish, loose-knit tannin. Long and balanced, its briary presence of blackberries and dark plums is lightly oaked and backed by a hint of dark chocolate, finishing with a surprisingly brisk acidity and a lingering mineral note.

A rare well-made example of this variety unblended. Rich raspberry and citrus fruit with very firm rustic sandy tannins.

Slightly charry, earthy notes, with elements of tar and black fruits; good acid and chewy tannins are the drivers on the palate.

The steel-blue stripes that frame the label are well-chosen to represent mourvedre's steely/savoury blue-fruited character. Earthy and ripe, plenty of savoury spice and well-applied oak. The palate's dense and juicy, tannins chime in with savoury compact solid force, taking the wine long and intense through the finish, some dried plum flavour too. Will reward cellaring.

2006 RELEASE A great mourvedre. This is the wine of a winery on song. It's pure, warm, interesting, full of flavour - and yet structured and savoury too. A mourvedre with the lot, please. It tastes of tar, violets, orange blossom, kirsch and boysenberries. It's a boomer. A tannin structure to die for. Yummo. DRINK 2012-2022.

Medium-bodied; a nice interplay between the savoury tannin tendencies of the variety, and the richness of McLaren Vale plus that dark chocolate. Has plenty going for it in its own right, but would always add something to a blend.

Very ripe, almost scented, fruit aromas; as befits the variety, a substantial palate, but the tannins are not too aggressive, the oak incidental.

Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
Deeply flavoured, this savoury and harmoniously balanced red wine has a lightly herbal, violet-like aroma of dark red and black berry fruits that reveals earthy, stony undertones of cloves and cinnamon. Framed by fine, bony tannins, its firm and slightly meaty expression of prunes and plums reveals a measure of support from older oak. It just needs time.

Firm, fine-grained red wine whose jib is cut with a little more elegance than usual. Its spicy, briary aromas of dark plums, berries and freshly turned earth precede a richly flavoured, smooth and choco-latey palate whose fruit flavours are brightly lit and harmoniously married to powdery tannins and restrained oak. Very dry and savoury, destined to open up nicely.

Medium to full-bodied; spice, earth and bitter chocolate; varietal tannins; controlled oak.
