There is one thing I search for above anything when it comes to Chardonnay, and that is the name of a great winemaker – a winemaker whom GETS Chardonnay. This is not Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc; rather it is a much different beast that needs plenty of love and affection to show its best – a fact that plenty of quality winemakers fail to fully appreciate.
From one of Australia’s premier Chardonnay winemakers, Sandro Mosele plus on of our finest regions, the Mornington Peninsula, this is a serious wine with its layers of citrus and tropical fruit given interest by a touch of creamy oak complexity. For those who love great Chardonnay, we salute you.
Fruit for the Darley Wines Chardonnay is sourced from the Mornington Peninsula. Handpicked prior to whole bunch pressing and barrel fermentation with natural yeasts before 10 months maturation in largely used oak, this is a classic cool climate Australian style with restrained, elegant and pristine fruit, some creaminess and richness from barrel maturation finishing with crisp and fine acidity. A wine that will drink well for 5 years.
