Darley The Colt Pinot Noir

Cracka Review

If I was searching around for top value Pinot Noir, two things would be on my hit-list. The first is a great winemaker – Pinot Noir needs an expert, preferably with runs on the board. Second is fruit from one of our great Pinot regions – preferably in Southern Victoria or Tasmania. Well this wine has both! First is Sandro Msoele, winemaker at highly-rated Kooyong and Port Philip Estate and second is fruit straight from the Kooyong’s Mornington Peninsula vineyards. Add to that the fact it will sell around half the RRP and you have yourself bargain city. But keep it to yourself as this wine will go in a flash once word gets out! Lifted red fruits, with some brooding rhubarb flavours in a silky-smooth package. Pretty damn good Pinot Noir at a seriously sharp price.

Winemaker's Notes

A purplish ruby colour. Aromas of raspberry and cherry, then violet florals, oak and botanical spices. The palate is mid weight with a core of red fruits, fresh acidity, fine tannins and a slightly savoury edge. Best drinking over the next 2 – 3 years.
