De Bortoli 8 Year Old Tawny

Cracka Review

Appearance - Deep toffee.

Bouquet - Aromas of nuts with aged rancio notes.

Palate - The refined rancio characters are enhanced by rich chocolate, coffee and sweet almond characters. On the palate, smooth, concentrated.

De Bortoli Wine Reviews and Accolades

Highly Commended: 2010 Sydney International Wine Competition
Trophy: 2009 Riverland Wine Show, Class 28
Special Award: 2007 Decanter World Wine Awards
9 Gold Medals from 2003-2009
7 Silver Medals from 2007-2010

"Amber with copper rim. Pungent aromas of red berries, poached pear and toffee, with accents of thyme, honey and dried flowers. Light and fresh, with noteworthy restraint to its toffee- and honey-tinged fruit flavors. Gently styled and ridiculously easy to drink, finishing with a note of raspberry and impressive depth and persistence." - 91 Points, Josh Raynolds for Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (USA), August 2006

"We blinked in disbelief when our stewards revealed the identity of this wine. It certainly punches above its weight and the eight year old designation may be conservative. The nose is fresh, with a nutty complexity, and the palate is long and comparatively dry, offering faintly sherry-like notes." - Excellent Value, WINEWISE, Vol 22 No 2, June 2006

"A youthful style with a light tawny colour. Lifted rancio/oak aromas and a sweet, well-balanced dark chocolaty palate that exhibits great elegance." - Best Wines of 2005 in Winestate Annual 2006, Vol. 29, Issue 1, January 2006

Expert Reviews

James Halliday says
Good rancio and balance; spicy, biscuity aromas and flavours; not too sweet.

Peter Forrestal says
As well as being crammed with honey, toffee, caramel, chocolate and dried fruit flavours, this has a softness and an easy-drinking quality that makes it a sure bet on a winter's night - and plenty of other occasions too.

Max Allen & Peter Forrestal says
We have to be honest and say this was not universally liked. Max loved its complexity, its true nuttinsse and richness, and thought it had a lovely savoury twist running through the palate. Peter found it a little more malty, simple, and with an okay, spirity finish. It's a good wine, though, whichever way you look at it.
