James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
For those who read the tea leaves of wine shows, and their results, gold medals in Vienna and Berlin. plus a silver at Rutherglen make sense for a $13 wine that has kept remarkably fresh colour and red fruit flavours; as if this were not enough, it has very good tannin and oak inputs.

Value Wine of the Week
"An altogether superior wine at this price point; the palate is light- to medium-bodied, but the black fruits have good texture, reflecting 12 months in older oak."

As always, over-delivers at its price point; bright plum and blackberry fruit, with a pleasing savoury twist on the finish.

"This is so plump and flavoursome that you'd describe it almost as 'rich'. It's way better than the price would suggest. Excellent freshness and vitality. Plummy, minty, vanillin and oak-influenced - but not overly so. Has length and structure and is satisfying to the last drop. It's not big or bruising but it's very good."

If ever there was an argument in favour of the blending of grapes from many different regions, this is it (well, and Grange, of course). It's almost impossible to do a wine this good, at this price, in any other way. This is so plump and flavoursome that you'd describe it almost as 'rich'. It's way better than the price would suggest. Excellent freshness and vitality. Plummy, minty, vanillin and oak-influenced - but not overly so. Has length and structure and is satisfying to the last drop. It's not big or bruising but it's very good.

Abundant plum and blackberry fruit on both bouquet and palate; slightly chippy/charry oak doesn't spoil the party; quite complex and well priced. Surprise gold-medal winner, Sydney Wine Show '08.

Light- to medium-bodied, with good balance and line; blackberry and plum fruit uncomplicated by 12 months in oak; utterly exceptional value. Gold medal Sydney Wine Show '07.

I found this a bit shy on the nose but love the fleshiness of the palate and its red cherry, dark plum flavours. Easy to drink.

Punches way above its price weight; plenty of black fruits and supporting oak; good structure.

The winemakers have been a bit heavy-handed on the charry oak here but it is matched by good depth of flavour and some richness. There are heaps of tannins and the finish will be a touch firm for some. Better with food, of course, and it will be admired by those who love lashings of oak.
