"It is made mostly from Riverina grapes, but there is a small cool-climate Adelaide Hills and King Valley component in this De Bortoli 2009 Montage exceptional value white from the De Bortoli family wine company. It is lime green in colour and has scents of orange blossom and crushed almonds. Smooth creamy white peach flavour features on the front of the palate, while fig and shortbread fruit characters meld with subtle nutty oak on the middle palate. Fresh steely acid comes through at the finish." - John Lewis for the Newcastle Herald, November 2009

De Bortoli Montage Chardonnay Semillon

Expert Reviews

WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Some nice peaches and cream chardonnay characters here. Good use of oak. Should age well. 3-5

Peter Forrestal (2008 Vintage) says
This is a Riverina white that has fresh sweet pea flavours and is clean and pleasant, if a bit too sweetish for me.

WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Grassy semillon characters dominate the nose and the palate has citrusy zestiness.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Bright and lively, the grassy/citrussy semillon component contributing substantially to both flavour and length; value plus.

This style suits the Riverina when it's done as well as this. Lifted, cedary oak, attractive creamy texture and rich, ripe peach and tropical fruit flavours make this a delightful drink.

Ken Gargett (2002 Vintage) says
This is a pretty simple peachy little number, but it is also a technically excellent wine with some nice lemony character from the semillon and none of those horrible sour flavours you so often encounter in wines at this price. This is a montage of two terrific varieties done damn well, so while it may not look too pretty and the price is definitely below what you reckon constitutes a 'serious' wine, let not prejudice stand in your way. This is tops.

James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Light to medium yellow-green; the bouquet is not particularly intense, but is complex, and the oak, while evident, is not over the top. The palate is quite rich and soft, even if a fraction broad; good value at the price.
