Cracka Review

Western Australia is not the only place that does tasty Sauvignon Blanc Semillon Blends. This is a fragrant, more restrained grassy style crying out for fish and chips.

Winemaker's Notes

2013 is an exciting vintage for Sauvignon Blanc with terrific balance of flavour, texture and acidity. The wines are pungent but composed considering a relatively warm February.

Appearance: Medium straw colour with green edges.

Nose: Hints of gooseberry, slightly grassy and funky, some creaminess.

Palate: Fresh tropical fruit flavours, herbal and grassy flavours, soft acidity.

Food: Grilled whiting (or any nice white fish fillet).

Cellaring: Now or enjoy over the next two years.

Alcohol: 12.0%

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2011 Vintage) says
Alive with lime blossom, lemon zest and cut grass, this is an impressively fragrant SBS, with a zippy and crunchy palate scaffolded on a high-tensile core of lime juice.
Tyson Stelzer (2010 Vintage) says
Exciting to see SBS of restraint at this price. Eighteen months after vintage, it's still fresh, crunchy, textural and lively, with primary nashi pear, lemon and lime fruit.

Pale straw-green; crisp, clean and correct, with herbal characters balanced by sweeter stone fruit/tropical fruit nuances.
James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Lively, bright and crisp, with a mix of gooseberry, grass and mineral aromas and flavours; long, clean, dry finish; very good value

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Typical spotless and finely crafted wine, even at this price level and volume; gooseberry and citrus flavours; sourced from no less than eight regions across Vic and NSW thanks to the '07 vintage.

Last year, we made De Borts the dbwwm Winery of the Year because they excelled at every level. They haven't stopped excelling but we've stopped letting anyone win two years running. Sorry guys, we just like to spread the love around. The Windy Peak wines are all fabulous value and this one is full of flavour and nicely balanced. True, it's not the best sem savvy made here—but in this book that fabulous value thing'U swing it for you every time.
