Cracka Review

As they say in the Hunter, this wine is Sem-sational and it’s no wonder that Australia’s gift to the world of white wine continues to gain loyal fans. Mike De Iuliis is one of a new breed of Hunter winemakers who manages to make wines that talk of place. Typically varietal and regional showing lemon and lime as well as cut grass aromas before a palate of fresh citrus fruit and a zingy acid finish. Drinking well now but will cellar brilliantly for a decade or more.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Pale lime green.

Nose: Lifted aromas of intense lemon and lime citrus.

Palate: A crisp, clean wine dominated by fresh citrus, balanced acidity and intensity of fruit flavours add length to the palate.

Food: This wine displays fresh, lifted, citrus characters, a light palate, and crisp, zesty acids. It’s the perfect match for seafood or any delicately flavoured dishes.

Cellaring: Perfect for early consumption, suited to cellaring.

De Iuliis Semillon

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2013 Vintage) says
Great value in Hunter semillon, with immediate appeal in its fragrant lemon, pure grapefruit and zesty lime, and plenty of potential thanks to well-defined acidity, long, clean purity and soft texture.
James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; the bouquet is crisp and lifted, with citrus and grass notes, the palate with good drive, length and balance, and zesty, citrussy minerality, the finish bone dry.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Fragrant lemon/lemongrass aromas and a vibrantly juicy palate, full of flavour and character, yet elegant. What a wonderful variety semillon is.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Light, bright straw-green; expressive bouquet with notes of citrus, grass and a touch of herb; beautifully balanced palate, with very good line and length to the fruit, which has echoes of lime in the background. Now or later.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Medium- to full yellow-green, bright and clear; a powerful, wine with gently ripened lemon/lime fruit; excellent acidity and length. Perverse use of Zork.
