Deep Woods Cabernet Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This is a giant killer. A seriously dense, structured Margaret River red, this has rich Cabernet fruit and fine tannins, built in a structure that will see it last for decades. Although only recently released by the winery, this has scooped up a bunch of wine show silverware as well - including gold medals from the Melbourne, Perth and Royal Queensland wine shows plus another three silver medals.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Deep ruby red with vivid purple hues.

Nose: The wine exhibits ripe cassis, red plums and salted liquorice aromas. High notes of cedary oak and bay leaf add further complexity and frame the underlying graphite like minerality.

Palate: The palate unfolds in a myriad of layers of red fruit with black olive nuances further enhanced by subtle savoury oak. The long and flavoursome finish is well supported by dry and fine grained tannins.

Cellaring: Will continue to improve over the next five to seven years.

Alcohol: 14.0%

Deep Woods Cabernet Merlot

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Estate-grown; the various blocks were separately picked, fermented, and matured in new and used French oak prior to blending. Stamps its authority and quality the moment it enters the mouth; intense red fruits, with some cassis spark off notes of black olive and cedary oak; the tannins are fine, but play a significant role on the finish and aftertaste.
