Deep Woods Margaret River Chardonnay

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Yet another example of ripping Margaret River Chardonnay at sub $20. On lees for between six to eight months, it has the weight you want from your MR Chardonnay, but still maintains fantastic freshness and vibrancy.

White Blossom characteristics, with a little gun smoke and some flinty minerality, this little beauty is a battle to put away back in the fridge! Nice, juicy, lengthy finish. Fantastic on its own, or perfectly paired with something like a cream based seafood pasta dish.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2015 vintage is a spectacular example of the modern Margaret River Chardonnay style. Fermented largely in older oak barrels using only indigenous yeasts with no fining or acid additions, it is a wine that finds its beauty in fruit purity. At Deep Woods, Chardonnay is one of the varieties that excels both in the vineyard and in the winery. This excellent expression, partly due to only limited time in oak, is fresh and zesty with inherent complexity.

The fruit was picked in a number of batches to ensure a full gambit of flavours. It was then whole bunch pressed directly to two-and three-year-old French oak barrels. These barrels were then allowed to ferment “wild” using indigenous yeasts and subsequently matured on lees for six to eight months. Post maturation this wine was simply emptied from barrel, filtered, bottled and released. This Chardonnay is fresh and uncompromised, ready to enjoy.

The Wine Front (2015 Vintage) says
Here’s a cracking bottle of Chardonnay that’s available for a tick under $20.

Some funk and struck match, but it’s all about juicy citrus and nectarine, and while there’s some sweetness there, clean acidity keeps it tidy, and cashew nuts and a glossy feel on the finish adds complexity and charm. Great value. Approachable and alarmingly easy to drink.
