Delatite Dungeon Gully Merlot Malbec

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Delatite name is synonymous with cool climate wines of finesse. The wines are all farmed biodynamically so that the vineyards ecosystem remains abundantly healthy and this is reflected in the fruit. This interesting red blend sees Merlot and Malbec paired together to present a wine that’s rich in plum and spice with a nicely weighted mouthfeel of dark fruit, chocolate and notes of vanilla.

Winemaker's Notes

A lovely softer blend that in 2008 is made up of Merlot and Malbec in equal volumes; as in the original blends of almost twenty years ago. The warm, berry characters of the Merlot combine with the dark blood plum and dry spiciness of the Malbec.

The palate is of medium weight, with round fruit and tones of chocolate and vanilla. Cellar for up to ten years.

Bright colour; an effusive display of red fruit aromas and flavours; minimal tannins and structure; early-drinking style.

Youthful purple-red; light-bodied; direct red cherry and plum fruit, the oak in restraint; scores on its clean finish.

James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Medium purple-red; raspberry and cherry fruit aromas lead into a light but pleasant palate with sweet, juicy berry (not minty) flavours in unabashed, early-drinking style.
