Delatite Pinot Gris

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Gris/Grigio debate is one we often get asked about what’s the difference and which is better. Well the difference is more cultural. Grigio is the Italian version made in a crisp, lean style while Gris is commonly found in Alsace and is a rounder, richer style with plenty of texture. The Delatite version mirror’s the latter with generous flavours of pear, musk and spice showing real fruit concentration on the palate with good weight and balanced acids.

Winemaker's Notes

Pinot Gris was first planted at Delatite in 1996 and the first vintage released was the 2001. It’s normally harvested between mid March and mid April. We pick at a variety of ripeness levels to ensure increased complexity of flavour and texture and I feel the wines have always been more in the gris style rather than the grigio! The fruit shows rich flavours of pear, musk and some spice and the length and depth of fruit on the palate is balanced with fine acidity and it will develop beautiful honey tones in the bottle over the next 4 to 10 years.

Very appealing, delivers the varietal pears, good follow through, enough acid to hold, honeyed with time.

Pale bright straw; spiced pear aromas lead into a pear and lemon juice palate, with arresting line and length. A seriously good pinot gris.

Lifted aromas, quite rose petal -like. The flavours evoke more pears and citrus with high acid level.

Tangy; has some (welcome) bite to announce its presence, plus pear skin varietal flavour; long finish and no shortage of character.

Typical Pinot Gris; fleeting pear, apple, musk and spice nuances; scores on mouthfeel.
