Deonte 'Estate 519' Barossa Valley Shiraz
Hailing from a very good vintage in the Barossa comes this sweetly-fruited, spicy number that would be a hit at your next family BBQ. Plum jam, dark berries, mocha and pepper spice waft out of the glass, whilst the palate is quite rich and lush, with plush plummy flavours, a lick of deli-meats, a thread of talcy tannins, and a nice kick of spice in the finish. It slips down easy to make for enjoyable drinking over the next couple of years.
Nose: Complex aromas of red and black fruits with spicy oak notes.
Palate: Flavours of sweet blackberry and some liquorice with a soft and juicy finish.
Grape Variety: 98% Shiraz, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Reviews and AccoladesDeep ruby with slight garnet tints. There are aromas of smoked ham, juniper and black pepper as well as some sweet stewed cherry notes. There’s a subtle woodiness coming through on the nose that is grainy in profile. On the palate the wine is sweetly fruited with a generous texture that is followed by cool acidity. There is a light and finely grained tannin and there are fruit notes which are plummy with aniseed spice. Medium-length, this is a wine for earlier consumption.

Aug 2014, there is a 2% Cabernet input, quite ripe fruit showing sweet blackberry essence, plums and ripe currants with white pepper and liquorice notes, medium-full bodied with some smoked meat and leather aspects, plenty of roast coffee/cinnamon oak with juicy acid finish providing some drive, fine grainy tannins and medium length, drink soon, easy drinking BBQ wine.
