Cracka Review

Deonte are fairly new to the wine landscape priding themselves on making elegant wines from Australia's top regions. This shiraz offering out of the Yarra Valley is certainly a svelte little minx weighing in at 12.9%, and shows abundant smells of red berries sprinkled with dried herbs and pepper spices on the nose, whilst the palate is fruity, fresh and totally smashable, with easy-going and friendly tannins, bright acidity and a decent, chocolaty-edged finish. Excellent value at the price!

Winemaker's Notes

An elegant and juicy shiraz from the premium cool climate Yarra Valley region. The grapes for this wine were harvested from a high quality vineyard in Yarra Glen yielding fruit that reached full ripeness whilst maintaining freshness and elegance.

Nose: Fragrant red fruit and rose aromas.

Palate: Juicy red fruit flavours with a clean and fruity finish. Lightly oaked to create a lighter, easy drinking style. Medium bodied, it is made in a more European style with acidity, sweetness and more complex elements carefully balanced to create a wine for all occasions and palates.

Alcohol: 12.9%

Reviews and Accolades

The wine has a medium intensity ruby colour. On the nose there are flavours of mulled strawberries and crisp raw raspberries, white pepper and fresh baking yeast. The palate displays more black cherry fruit as well as fennel seed, other light anise notes and hints of baked clay as well as a few notes of fresh yeast. The tannin is low in quantity but short in structure. This is an easy going wine driven by primary fruit. Consume in 1 to 3 years. The wine doesn’t have a strong oak influence and is made in a savoury syrah style.

Aug 2014, from a Yarra Glen vineyard in a cold vintage, medium intensity ruby colour, fresh raspberry and sour cherry with mint, white pepper and iris florals, the glycerolly medium bodied palate also shows anise and sage herbal notes, some brown sugar and dark chocolate on the finish although the oak regime is subtle, the juicy acidity and the light 12.9% alcohol is a plus for this easy drinking style, medium length, a silky Shiraz that Pinot-philes can relate to, good value.
