Devil's Corner Chardonnay

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here’s a Gris that’s all about texture and weight with essential aromas of pear, nuts and spice. It’s full and soft with ripe pear and a defined structure that’s clean and dry with length and persistence. It’s perfect with dishes like chicken or pork or equally drinks well on its own.

Winemaker's Notes

Pale straw in colour with green tinges. On the palate it is fresh, youthful and appealing with zesty melon aromas alongside some riper yellow peach. The overall impressions provided by this wine are crisp, clean and refreshing. There are zingy citrus flavours of lemon and grapefruit, with some subtle creaminess complexity, with a zesty refreshing finish. Drink now and over the next 3 to 5 years. The modern style Chardonnay is a wonderful example of the tighter more drinkable cool climate wines that are coming out of Australia. Try it with a serve just cooked scallops that are topped with a light creamy sauce and salmon row. It is also very good with ripe brie and pear.

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Unoaked, but has good varietal expression courtesy of a seamless, almost creamy, mix of stone fruit, citrus and melon fruit flavours, the acidity well balanced.

Unashamedly Tasmanian, unashamedly 2011 and unashamedly under $15 this week! A taut and honed chardonnay that carries the high-tensile acidity of the vintage with poise, making for a refreshing aperitif style of pretty white peach and lemon blossom.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Unashamedly Tasmanian, unashamedly Í11 and unashamedly bargain-priced, this is an eminently refreshing aperitif Chardonnay. It carries the high-tensile acidity of the vintage with delicate poise, presenting white peach and lemon blossom in a particularly taut and honed guise.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Pleasant unoaked style, with stone fruit flavours and good balance.

Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says
Pear fruits, quite cool and restrained, some vanillin and background spices, varietal and clean-cut. The palate has simple pear and apple flavours, subtle honeysuckle, plenty of keen Tasmanian acidity and enough texture to balance it all through the finish.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
A very aromatic and fragrant citrus blossom bouquet; bright acidity streaks through the vibrant grapefruit flavours of the palate. Little or no oak.

James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Light to medium green-yellow; a clean, moderately intense bouquet with some minerally/stony notes, the palate offering finely balanced melon fruit and a long finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2001 2001
James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium yellow-green; the bouquet is quite intense and solid, with a mix of mineral and citrus aromas. The wine has plenty of length and good balance on the palate, although it is slightly sweet.
