Dinny Goonan Museum Release Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Dinny Goonan are located off the Great Ocean Road in Victoria's Otway Ranges and have a serious bent towards Riesling. This 2009 Museum Release Riesling is held back by the winery until it is five years of age, then launched as a more complex aged wine.

What a wine it is too - praised by the judges at the last Geelong Wine Show for its 'taut acidity and vibrant fruit', this stunning, generous-but-crisp Riesling is drinking superbly.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine is 100% Riesling and made in a dry style. It has been aged for five years prior to release. This is a great example of an aged Riesling where primary citrus characters are complimented by bottle aged honey and toast notes to gain added complexity.

Appearance: Light gold with gold hues.

Nose: Vibrant zesty lemon and lime with lightly browned toasty background notes.

Palate: This wine is approaching its peak as the acidity softens and complexity develops without losing its citrus zing. The fine mineral structure provides impressive mouth-feel to the lemon sherbet, toast, and slightly honeyed characters on the palate before finishing with a lingering tangy lemon finish.

Food: An aged Riesling is a good match to vegetables such as chargrilled eggplant or stuffed capsicum, rice dishes like lemon and silverbeet risotto, meat dishes such as veal scaloppini duck leg confit or cheeses such as an aged parmesan or blue-vein cheese.

Cellaring: Drink to 2024.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Pale straw-green; a very tight and precise wine folded in on itself with lemon and apple flavours enhanced by minerally acidity. Demands time.
Till 2014.
