Domain Barossa Black Tongue Shiraz

Cracka Value Rating

Cracka Review

This value wine from Domain Barossa is a tad more elegant than usual, but still displays some dark, brooding fruits and mocha on the nose, with a sprinkling of pepper. The palate is fullsome with resonable flesh, a good hit of chocolate and coconut, sultry tannins, and a mellow finish. Time to stoke-up the BBQ.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine displays the classic characters of a full bodied Barossa Shiraz. There are fruit flavours reminiscent of dark chocolate, pepper and blackcurrant, it has fine tannins and balanced oak from 18 months in new and seasoned French and American Oak.

Deep colour, offering lavish levels of sweet black fruits, bitter chocolate and dark plums in abundance; a generous and evenly balanced wine.

Deep colour; strong mocha and toffee notes on the bouquet; the palate is unctuous and sweet fruited, with a rich fruitcake finish.

Good hue; a complex Barossa Valley shiraz that seems to have had a brief liaison with McLaren Vale and come home with a distinct touch of chocolate to add to its black fruits, fine-grained tannins and plentiful oak.

WINESTATE (2008 Vintage) says
Lovely floral/spicy bouquet. Licorice characters threaded through the palate, with more of those floral notes showing. Tight acid profile.

Deep garnet; good concentration, flavour and depth of fruit on the finish, but a little one-dimensional.

Dark menthol fruit on the nose and overt, sweet black cherry flavours with a good dose of tannins.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Powerful and still very youthful; focused blackberry fruit needing to unwind; controlled oak and firm acidity. Should get there.
