Domain Day One Serious Sangiovese

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here's a bit of Central Italy with a couple of years maturity on it, which means it's not overly fruit-driven, but it is a great option for food. Quite sangiovese typical aromas of sour cherries and dark stone fruits adorn the nose, with some bottle-aged soft, earthy savouriness. The palate is smooth and dry with a sweet middle palate, mellow tannins and a savoury finish. Try it with a bowl of spag bog.

Winemaker's Notes

Colour: Deep purple in colour with dark crimson highlights.

Nose: Ripe dark cherry and subtle sour cherry notes.

Palate: Fleshy red cherry fruit, a silky sweet fruit flavour on the mid-palate with an unmistakable and essential hint of earthy savouriness. Medium-bodied, fine, ripe tannins and a good acidity typical of Sangiovese, with a pleasantly drying, fine tannin finish that underlies the more rustic varietal character, and keeps the wine rather polite and elegant.

A thoroughly attractive example of sangiovese, with clear black cherry/sour cherry fruit; fine, ripe tannins and good acidity.

Not serious, perhaps, but not bad either; cherry, rose petal and spice flavours on the light to medium-bodied palate; fine tannins and particularly good length.
