2009 was a knockout year in Burgundy, so here is a taste of Beaujolais from a single village to get you started. Moulin-A-Vent tends to produce longer lived Beaujolais made from gamay, a cousin of pinot noir. Aromas of strawberries and raspberries fill the air, whilst the palate is light to medium-bodied, bright, soft and approachable with a touch of sweetness upfront, gentle tannins, and a dry finish. These wines tend to be one of the few reds you can drink with spicy food due to their mellow nature.

‘This is quite pretty & while overtly ripe, it’s not over the top in the fashion of some 09 Beaujolais that I have tasted. There is good vibrancy and detail to the menthol-suffused flavours that display enough finishing warmth to be clearly noticeable.
