Domaine Remi Jobard Monthelie 1er Cru Sur La Velle Pinot Noir

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Monthelie is a commune of the Cote de Beaune in Burgundy, and the wines from there make for some highly affordable drinking of some posh pinot noir. From a decent vintage, this premier Cru version shows sweet red cherries, plums, soft spice and a touch of meatiness on the nose, meanwhile the palate is medium-bodied with good fruit drive, some tightness to the tannins and acidity, and a long, spiced cherry finish. This will continue to improve in the cellar over the next 5 years.

Winemaker's Notes

Bright ruby in colour with pink hues, the Monthelie displays lots of toasty oak characters complimented by soft spices and red fruits. The candied cherry notes that show through on the nose continue on the palate and are balanced by cured meat, savoury and earthy characters that are such an important part of Burgundian reds. Very fine silky tannins and great length finish this quality single vineyard Pinot Noir.

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2009 Vintage) says
All the chalky minerality, grapefruit, white peach, citrus zest and fig of Meursault in crisp focus, thanks to subtle vanilla bean and almond oak playing a subtle role. Clean, long fruit drive.
