Dorrien Estate Dorrien Estate Bin 1A Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
An innovative blend of Margaret River, Coal River (Tasmania) and Mount Benson grapes has worked brilliantly. Barrel fermentation in French oak has brought out the abundant white peach, nectarine and grapefruit flavours of the long palate; Bin 1A is the pinnacle of the vintage for Dorrien Estate (for the valley in question). 13.5% ALC.

Sourced from the Coal River Valley, Margaret River and Mount Benson, areas that react synergistically, giving this wine the texture one would normally expect from older wine; a very high-quality wine, and it will be fascinating to observe how it develops over the years ahead with its nectarine and cashew fruit.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
A blend of Mount Benson (70%)/Coal River, Tasmania (30%) produces a fruit-driven yet complex wine, with citrus and nectarine fruit interwoven with quality barrel ferment oak; good length.

Pale, bright straw-green; like the '08, a blend of Mount Benson/Coal River, the percentages not specified; a vibrantly fresh bouquet and equally fresh palate of white peach, nectarine and grapefruit, oak present but little more.

A very classy nose projecting aromas of walnuts and peaches. In the mouth its delicious, with lingering toasty, creamy, malty flavours. It has length, structure and nice aged characters.
