Dry Creek Meritage
The term 'Meritage' basically means it is a blend of Bordeaux varieties, mainly cab sav, merlot and petit verdot. This medium-bodied offering from Dry Creek is a super little wine at the price, for a yanky wine, and shows lovely aromas of dark fruits, anise spice, tobacco, cedar and smokiness on the nose. The palate is quite elegant, and only 13.5% alcohol, with plum and cherry flavours, fine evident tannins, and a tight, juicy finish. This will kick on for a couple more years, but why not crack a bottle tonight and cook up some BBQ beef spare ribs.
Classic Bordeaux aromas leap from the glass with cassis, red cherry and peppery nuances. After several minutes, wonderful perfumed characters of rose petal, dried flowers, sage, and vanilla begin to mingle with the darker fruit elements. On the palate, the wine is rich and structured with excellent depth and silky, well integrated tannins. The finish is seamless and full bodied from the beginning to the last sip; it will age beautifully and develop in the bottle for years to come.
