Eagle Vale Whispering Lake Sauvignon Blanc Fume

Cracka Value Rating

Cracka Review

Herbal, subtle, creamy. Dry, fresh, light weight - interesting with some wild yeast too.

Winemaker's Notes

Palate: A floral and herbaceous bouquet with a splash of tropical fruit, gently oaked and faintly smoky (fumé) characters. Vibrant fruit on the palate through the finish. Long and textured.

Food: A perfect match with oysters, seafood and marrons.

Eagle Vale Whispering Lake Sauvignon Blanc Fume

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Colour still very pale; an altogether superior wine, not because of the barrel-ferment component, but thanks to its intensity and length on the palate, with citrus and tropical fruit woven around each other, the oak integrated.

Ray Jordan (2009 Vintage) says
This single vineyard Sauvignon Blanc has been given a little oak treatment that provides a gentle dusting over the lightly herbaceous fruit, while adding considerably to the texture, I reckon the guys have got this style about right now and it really does provide a great point of difference from the standard fare being offer up with this variety.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Bright colour; a green netde bouquet with a splash of tropical fruit; mostly vibrant fruit on the palate, with a touch of toasty oak showing through on the finish; long and textured.

Eagle Vale has been tinkering with this wooded style o sav Blanc for a while and I think this year they have got it just right. Has enough oak influence to create some interested with texture and complexity while it still retains its freshness and lively primary fruit. Nice alternative style.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Quite toasty and ripe on the bouquet, but still quite fresh; oak dominates a little too much throughout the wine.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Gently oaked; faintly nutty/smoky flavours; crisp, flinty acidity.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Very developed, though healthy colour; a rich, mouthfilling mix of herbal fruit and spicy/smoky oak.
Australian Wine Companion 2005 2004
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
In near-identical style to the '03, but with greater length and intensity.
