Cracka Review

From a ripping vintage in Margaret River, this is soft but super spicy, a little pepper and meaty delight with fine tannins and a nice background character of dark olives. Really quite sophisticated wine, in a nice place right now.

Winemaker's Notes

Palate:This full bodied Shiraz shows a seamless and complex array of plum and blackberry fruit. This elegant wine has fine herbs and earthy flavours supported by
lingering silky oak tannins that reflects the wine maker’s philosophy of minimal intervention during the winemaking process and the exceptional
Margaret River gravely loam soil “terroir”

Food:Mediterranean or Italian dishes.
Try with salmon grilled steak.

Cellaring:Will benefit from careful cellaring.

Method:The must is cool fermented in closed tank with daily remontage. No sulphur is added prior to fermentation. After malolactic (secondary) fermentation all the wine is matured in French oak barrels for 18 months.

After: Regular racking and minimal filtration is preferred to maintain the original vineyard derived flavours.

Ray Jordan (2007 Vintage) says
A distinctive earthy savoury shiraz with some nice gritty characters worked into the medium to full bodied structure. Firmish grainy tannins The fruit is full and powerful with a good use of oak to add some structure and complexity. Shows a real vineyard character. Nice wine.

This is an excellent medium bodied red from the southern part of the Margaret River region. Savoury and peppery aromas with some light plum and earthy dark cherry characters. The palate is seamless and smooth with well integrated tannins and oak. An appealing wine.

James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Earthy, spicy, stemmy background to tangy red and black fruits; fine tannins; good length and finish.

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Very foresty, very gamey; chocolate, spice, licorice aftertaste; long finish. Interpreted as varietal character, but without total conviction.
