Eden Road Wines Canberra Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Light but bright hue; a very elegant wine with a core of red cherry and plum fruit, supported rather than challenged by superfine tannins and oak (10% new French puncheons). Making a better Shiraz given the vintage would have been nigh on impossible, but it is probable this wine will principally appeal to lovers of pinot Noir.

Wine Companion (2011 Vintage) says
There is no shortage of exciting shiraz in the Canberra district and this highly perfumed, floral and red-fruited example from Nick Spencer and the team is more evidence that great winemakers handle difficult vintages with aplomb. The palate is racy, direct and tightly wound, with saturated red and black fruits at its core. These are offset by black pepper notes, hints of gravel and super fine, long and perfectly ripe tannins.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Vivid colour; a heady mixture of spice and black fruit perfume, showing truffle, roasted meat, char and spice; the palate is densely packed, chewy and serious in nature, yet over time reveals a silky, soft and intriguing combination of spice and fruit; beautifully detailed, with rapier-like acidity drawing out the finish, this wine is another example of just how good Canberra District can be.

Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
This fits into the top tier of the Eden Road offering, along with their Tumbarumba Chardonnay and eventually - quality permitting - a Tumbarumba pinot noir. It's a thick and dense wine, typical of the '09 Canberra reds, showing complex black fruits and spice, some earthy accents and nicely paced, integrated oak. The palate rolls out sheets of fine, ripe tannins, carrying dark-plum and black-cherry flavours, with pepper and spice twisted through. Finishes brightly balanced, and will evolve handsomely in bottle.
