Cracka Review

Eden Valley has a fine tradition of Chardonnay and because it’s that much higher and cooler than the nearby Barossa, the wines are much more elegant and finessed. The Elderton family are one of the oldest family owned wineries in the region having been established in the 1850s. This subtle Chablis-style white is just the thing for a piece of grilled fish in a lemon butter sauce. It shows subtle aromatics of pear and nectarine before a lean palate driven by citrus flavours and the slightest hint of oak.

Winemaker's Notes

Sitting up on a rocky hill at over 420 metres in the rather exposed Eden Valley ranges, gives the vines a determined character as they are fully exposed to the elements. Harvested to retain the fresh fruity characters that the cooler Eden Valley region is renowned for, this wine is light and fresh with a crisp finish.

Appearance: Pale straw.

Nose: White peach, vanillin oak.

Palate: Stone fruits, mineral and a hint of creamy oak.

Cellaring: Cellaring Drink now to 5 years from vintage.

Elderton Eden Valley Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
A prime example of the cool (and wet) vintage producing many excellent white wines. This has intense white peach and grapefruit flavours, partial fermentation in used French oak hogsheads precisely the right approach in the winery, building a subtle framework for the fruit and lengthening the palate.

WINESTATE (2010 Vintage) says
Well-oaked style with plenty of consumer appeal. Nice aromatic, peachy aromas and interesting perfumed flavours.

Pale colour, bright; the bouquet is restrained showing pear, nectarine, citrus and a light touch of toasty oak; the palate is racy and lean in style, with a lingering grilled nut and toast conclusion.
