Michael Cooper (2008 Vintage) says
Often one of the region's most distinguished Chardonnays, this wine was called 'Reserve' rather than 'Winemakers', prior to the 2008 vintage. The 2008 is a blend of grapes from two sites - 85 per cent from Bay View, on the coast (which gives 'lush' fruit characters), and 15 per cent from the Gimblett Gravels (which yields a more 'flinty' style). Hand-picked, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for a year in French oak barriques (35 per cent new), it is sturdy (14.5 per cent alcohol), with rich peach and grapefruit flavours, complex, deliciously nutty and creamy, but still very youthful; open 2011+.
