Esk Valley Winemakers Reserve Merlot Malbec Cabernet Sauvignon

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2009 Vintage) says
This powerful, classy red was labelled 'Reserve', rather than 'Winemakers Reserve', up to and including the 2006 vintage Dark, vibrantly fruity and bursting with ripe, sweet-tasting blackcurrant, plum and French oak flavours, it is one of Hawke's Bay's greatest wines. Grown in the company-owned Ngakirikiri Vineyard and the Cornerstone Vineyard, both in the Gimblett Gravels, it is matured for up to 20 months in French oak barriques (70 per cent new in 2007). The 2009 vintage is notably dark, rich and dense, with power right through the palate and beautifully ripe, silky tannins. Open 2013+.
