Cracka Review

This wine is amazing value for a W.A chardy, and it's made in that more modern style people are raving about these days. Attractive aromas of red apples, lemon zest, dairy and nuttiness waft out of the glass, whilst the palate is lighter-bodied and creamy textured with citrus, apple and pear flavours, and soft, rounded mouthfeel, and a dry, sensually buttery finish. It would be great with pork chops and apple sauce.

Winemaker's Notes

Lees stirring has encouraged textual development in a wine displaying intense grapefruit, lime and baked cumquat nose. The palate is complex with citrus and creme brulee balanced with creamy texture and finish.

Pale green, complex pine nuts and toasty French oak aromas, pear skin, lemon and cumquat. Core of delicious grapefruit and pear on the palate balanced with a creamy texture and a fine finish. Enjoy with orange and fennel salad.

Ferngrove Frankland River Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

Ray Jordan (2013 Vintage) says
This is a first-rate chardonnay from this impressive Frankland River producer. Shows a degree of complexity and sophistication you might not expect at this price point. Excellent oak is balanced and supportive while the fruit intensity carries through to a long palate.

Lighter and fruity, less oak than the diamond. More texture and oiliness in balance due to artful use of lees. Stone fruit flavours with fruit ripeness nectarine and medium long subtle oak finish. A standard bearer for great evening or day drinking.

A smooth, fluffy chardonnay of some cham. Tangy, spicy aromas of grapefruit are knit with gentle vanilla oak, with undertones of cloves, ginger and smoked meats. It's soft and gentle, with bright juicy fruit pleasingly balanced with soft acids but finishing with a little spirity warmth.

Honest and well made, but lacking genuine brightness and intensity. Its briny fragrance of citrus, melon, cinnamon and cloves reveals a mineral note, while its moderately long and generous palate of nutty, citrusy fruit has a creamy, nougat-like texture, finishing with fresh acids, a pleasing line of fruit and a savoury quality.

A subtle, refined and value-for-money release from Ferngrove, this is a fruit-focused Chardonnay with white peach and citrus zest flavours. It builds in weight into the finish, with oak adding texture and body.

Light bodied and flavoursome value for money chardonnay offering a little class. Zippy palate buoyed with subtle oak. Touches of light lime and grapefruit with a touch of vanilla bean. Attractive drinking over the next few years.
