Fifth Leg Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Western Australia has made sem sav blends their own, and here we have one in a fun and funky package that is also good value. Lots of tropical fruits decorate the nose in the passionfruit and gooseberry spectrum, with touches of chopped herbs and dairy. The palate is light, bright and zesty, with a slight creaminess to the mouthfeel, a racy line of acidity leading to a decent, vivacious finish. Keep one in the fridge for when your mates drop round - it'll go down a treat!

Jeremy Oliver (2011 Vintage) says
Vibrant, honest and flavoursome, with a bright, punchy aroma of grapefruit, gooseberries and passionfruit backed by dusty, nettle-like suggestions of snow peas. Round and juicy, it's long, tangy and tropical, with mouthfilling flavour underpinned by undertones of lemon sherbet, finishing with lovely acids and a lingering core of fruit.

There's a fineness in this classic blend but at the same time loads of vibrant tropical grassy fruit. The squeeze of lime juice livens it up. The palate is held with a precise acid that carries it to a very long finish. All those lychee and passionfruit goodies make this a delightful drink.

A happy quaffer with crunchy apple, guava, passionfruit and grapefruit, fresh and clean and in need of a stern chill to calm its sweetness.

A bright and fresh young dry white blend, this showcases plenty of citrus and tropical fruits - really fragrant passionfruit and melon here. The palate's very smooth, with no sharp edges and bright tropical flavours thoroughout. Good balance.

Pungent and racy, with the sauvignon blanc and semillon components driving the flavours, chardonnay playing a minor role in filling out the mid-palate a little; crisp acid provides a clean, dry finish. Gold medal Sydney Wine Show '10.

They've snuck a bit of chardonnay into this SBS blend; it's a crisp, appealing white with grass and herb aromas, lemony citrus and gentle tropical nuances too. The palate is smoothly arranged with bright melon, tropical and lemon flavour, plenty of crunchy acid and a soft texture through the finish.

A long, evenly paced blend whose grassy bouquet of gooseberries, melon and lychees is backed by dusty, nutty influences. It's smooth, seamless and mouthfilling, finishing long, dry and savoury with a persistent core of fruit underpinned by a fine chalkiness.

A relatively neutral bouquet, but a lively fresh palate untrammelled by oak; gentle grassy notes and a hint of stone fruit from the chardonnay component.
