Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Not surprisingly, the colour is impenetrable and the lashings of black fruits also display an alluring scent of vine sap complexity; the palate is full-blooded, yet shows refinement and integration of tannins, fruit and oak, with a staggeringly long, bright, acid finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition 2013
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Impenetrable colour, and while dark and brooding in character, offers glimpses of vibrant fresh blackberry, vine sap and bitter chocolate; the palate is full-bodied and powerful, with a brightness and floral note that engages, and acidity that lingers evenly on the finish; power with restraint.
Australian Wine Companion 2013 2012
Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
The most structured of the three Fat of The Land Shiraz wines made in 2009, this has a distinctly reserved attitude. Fruits sit in the plum and blueberry spectrum; there s some cassis here too, clove, cardamom, anise and licorice all adding complexity. The palate has a sleeve of ripe, nicely grained tannin buried in dark plum, blackberry and licorice flavour - quite elemental still, best with some time. Very concentrated.
Good Wine Guide 2013
James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Bright, deep purple-red; a major change in tune partly due to 24 months in 100% new American oak hogsheads; here dark chocolate notes swirl through the black cherry and plum fruit, the tannins ripe and round.
Australian Wine Companion 2012 2011
Nick Stock (2006 Vintage) says
A rich and muscular wine, with dark, brooding black fruits and some earthy, sweet dark roasted spices and a little glossy caramel oak; very ripe. Dark fruit drives deep through the palate, with licorice and dark berries, fruit pastilles and a sturdy undercarriage of tannin below.
The Penguin Good Australian Wine Guide 2010 2009
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Quite cool and lifted bouquet, with cranberry, blackberry and a distinct floral character; the palate is vibrant and fresh, showing anise, plenty of fruit, oak and gently chewy tannin profile; long and seamless finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Slightly darker fruits and somewhat more compelling; there is a liveliness to this wine that races across the palate, and is brought to its ultimate conclusion with a core of vibrant red fruits; it totally belies the alcohol of 15°
