Cracka Review

Made by Hillgrove Wines in McLaren Vale, this is remarkably elegant for a shiraz from the region. There are plenty of rich, ripe berry smells and tastes with this wine, all wrapped up in a spicy, mocha bow. The palate is medium to full-bodied with licks of herbs and earthiness, firm tannins, and a dry spiced chocolate finish. It will kick on for a few years in the cellar and soften out, but with a good decant and a few slices of roast lamb, it will be good to go.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: An attractive bright crimson red.

Nose: Subtle yet complex nose of savoury, spicy dark blackberry, herbs and slight vanilla aromas.

Palate: A restrained and elegant palette with soft plum and spice flavours in the middle and a gentle tannin finish at the end. Lingers nicely, dry and spice.

Cellaring: This wine has the potential to develop with careful medium-long term cellaring.

Alcohol: 14.6%

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
The grapes come form the 50-year-old vines surrounding Sue TrottÍs house in Blewitt Springs. It has wonderful crimson-purple colour, a great dark berry bouquet, and a glorious palate, with layer upon layer of plum and dark chocolate fruit accompanied by velvety tannins, oak somewhere in the background.
