Flametree Reserve Release Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Review

Winemaking notes: The fruit used for the creation of this wine was sourced from Karridale and Willyabrup. 2008 is a classic Margaret River vintage, producing wonderfully structured and textured wines. This wine was left on skins for 3 weeks after fermentation before being pressed and matured in French oak for eighteen months. This represents the best ten barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Flametree winery in a given vintage year.

Tasting notes: This wine has all the hallmark characteristics that have made this region so famous. Perfume, structure and elegance are combined to produce a lovely fruit driven wine showing cassis, blackberries and dark chocolate. The palate is fine and long.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Clear colour; the bouquet offers a complex array of black fruits and a touch of cedar, the elegant, medium-bodied palate with admirable line, length and balance to the varietal fruit.

Nick Stock (2008 Vintage) says
This has an upright, classic style about it, with ripe cassis and dark-chocolate aromas, some leafy components, choc-mint and sweet earthy nuances - really young. The palate's straight as a die, with fine, long tannins and direct, ripe berry and cassis fruit flavour; some chocolate here too. Just wavers with ripeness as it finishes.

Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says
Inky dark and intensely coloured in the glass, some iodine and olives, earthy deep fruit here, and a swathe of berries. The oak's pretty well in check but the wine feels overly engineered. The palate's brimming with dark plum and berry fruits and a stand of chewy tannins poking up though, finishing with dusty, silty texture and plenty of oak overlay.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Dense purple-crimson; has all the depth and concentration one could possibly wish for, oozing blackcurrant and licorice, the tannins and 18 months in French oak providing structural integrity.
