Flying Fish Cove The Italian Job

Cracka Review

A lively un-oaked blend of Margaret River grown Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and a touch of Cabernet comes to life with a rich purple colour complimented by crimson tones. Aromas of cherry with underlying savoury characters and dried herbs lift from the glass. The rich chewy palate has fruit flavours that pave the way for the dusted tannin profile these varieties are renowned for.

This is a blend of the Italian varieties sangiovese, nebbiolo and barbera. Has a dry savoury aroma with a little lifted berry nuance. On the palate the savoury dry finish takes over with fine tannins and lightly appl.ied oak in support. A nice current drinking wine light meat dishes and pasta, as you'd expect with such a name.

A slightly reductive bouquet, but has vibrant red berry fruits and a savoury, drying acid finish; quirky, but a good expression of these Italian varietals; Sangiovese/ Nebbiolo/ Cabernet Sauvignon.

There are precious few of the Italian varieties planted in Margaret River and so this is not only a rare but a surprisingly approachable blend of sangiovese and nebbiolo. The grapes are sourced from a grower who has both the varieties just a few kilometres from Flying Fish. It's intense, rich, uncomplicated yet easy to like.
