Big and juicy with high alcohol is pretty much the go with zinfandel, and this one from oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola is just that. Ripe, confected smells of raspberries, plums and blackcurrants rise from the glass, with hints of licorice. The palate is fullsome and fruit-sweet, with fleshy, jammy red berry and cherry flavours, fine-grained tannins, upright acidity, and a lush, sweetly-fruited, warm finish.
Our Diamond Collection Zinfandel is crafted by blending fruit from several different
appellations, which feature different clone selections, soil types and cultivation
methods. We use both hot and cool climate Paso Robles fruit, including some from
gravely clay loam soils similar to those in Australia’s Barossa Valley, as well as fruit from
By combining these different styles of Zinfandel, we achieve a wine of greater complexity
and character. In 2010, we harvested weeks later than normal due to the chilly spring
and mild summer months. The extended hangtime resulted in profusely aromatic fruit
quite concentrated in flavor, which provided this Zinfandel with a rich, jammy personality
that is perfectly balanced by the structure and tannins. To add complexity and depth we
enhanced the blend with Petite Sirah.
