Michael Cooper (2009 Vintage) says
A 'fruit-driven' style - with style. The 2009 vintage was blended with Viognier (3 per cent) and matured for 14-16 months in French oak casks (10 to 20 per cent new). A top example of South Island Syrah, it is mouthfilling and spicy, with a fresh, peppery, fragrant bouquet and strong, well-spiced, slightly nutty flavours, smooth and sustained. Drink now or cellar.

The 2007 vintage from Fromm shows again just how enjoyable the region's Syrah can be. Co-fermented with a small portion of Viognier, it was matured for over a year in oak barriques (10-20 per cent new). Dark and youthful in colour, it has a fresh, lifted, spicy bouquet, with a gentle seasoning of oak. Mouthfilling, vibrantly fruity and supple, it offers ripe, concentrated flavours of plums, spices and black pepper, with earthy, chocolatey hints adding complexity. Drink now onwards.
